ASEAN Community-Based Tourism Standard 2023

From December 5–6, 2023, Sabah Tourism Board hosted a workshop for local community-based tourism operators in Sabah that focused on the Community-Based Tourism (CBT) Standard.  The Ministry of Tourism, Arts, and Culture Malaysia, Sabah Office (trainer and facilitator), co-organized the workshop, which took place at the Ibis Styles Hotel Kota Kinabalu, Inanam.

Twenty-eight (28) participants representing local CBT operators from the districts of 1) Kota Belud, 2) Kiulu, Tamparuli, 3) Penampang, 4) Tambunan, 5) Tenom (Rundum), and 6) Nabawan and Sabah Tourism officers acquired comprehensive knowledge of the ten (10) criteria listed in the 2nd edition of the ASEAN Community-Based Tourism Standard.

The participants visited Pusat Rekreasi Bambangan Lama, Tamparuli, and conducted an on-site audit assessment as part of the program. Participants were divided into five (5) groups, and each group was assigned to assess, focusing on two (2) criteria (out of 10 in total).
