Upskilling training program for Youth and CBTS players in Sabah is one of the initiatives by the Sabah Tourism Board to enhance the competency of human capital development in the tourism industry.

The training program aims at improving the knowledge and skills of rural tourism operators to provide quality tourism experiences and services. It introduces the ASEAN Community-Based Tourism Standard, Sustainable Development Goals and subsequently proposes authentic tour packages featuring the uniqueness of the Telupid District.

The content of training program and learning activities focus on understanding the tourism industry and the characteristics of tourism products, services, procedures of professional guiding, sustainable tourist destination, food and beverage hygiene and safety as well as tourism safety and risks. These are outlined in the respective training modules. The training modules were developed from the needs analysis suggested by the tourism stakeholders in Telupid and delivered by the trainers from the Tourism Management and Hotel Management Program at the Universiti Malaysia Sabah.

The training sessions were held at the Doji Restaurant, Telupid from 20 – 21 December 2022. A total of 26 participants signed up to attend the two days of training. Participants consist of tourism product owners and community-based tourism players in the Telupid district.
