The training program aims at improving the knowledge and skills of rural tourism operators to provide quality tourism experiences and services. It introduces the ASEAN Tourism Standards and subsequently proposes authentic tour packages featuring the uniqueness of the five clusters (Papar, Beaufort, Kuala Penyu, Sipitang and Membakut).

The content of the training program and learning activities focus on understanding the tourism industry and the characteristics of tourism products, services, procedures of professional guiding, sustainable tourist destination, food and beverage hygiene and safety as well as tourism safety and risks. These are outlined in the respective training modules. The training modules were developed from the needs analysis as suggested by the tourism stakeholders in the five clusters and delivered the trainers from the Tourism Management and Hotel Management Program at Universiti Malaysia Sabah.

The training sessions were held at the Stephanie Garden Resort, Kuala Penyu from May 21-22, 2022. A total of 22 participants signed up to attend the two days of training. Participants came from different clusters – Papar, Kuala Penyu, Beaufort, Sipitang and Membakut.
